Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, occurring predominantly in patients with underlying chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. Here, we describe a case of a 62-year-old man that was admitted to our hospital and diagnosed with HCC where the cancer has already metastasized to the retroperitoneum and peritoneum. In order to better characterize the HCC, both the cancerous liver tissue and the adjacent normal liver tissue of the patient were collected and subjected to a genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic analysis.

Testolactone is a potent steroid aromatase (CYP19A1) inhibitor, and its main effect is a reduction in estradiol and estrone and an increase in testosterone and androstenedione levels. In this work, we evaluated a zebrafish water tank (ZWT) as a model to investigate testolactone biotransformation and the possibility to increase knowledge regarding the applicability of the ZWT on steroid hormone elimination research, as well as on the impact of steroid hormones on the endogenous metabolism of zebrafish. High-resolution mass spectrometry combined with SIEVE software was used to discriminate the peaks of interest based on significant changes in the relative signal intensity of the values between different ZWT experiments.

The contribution of the adaptive immune response to CD pathogenesis has been extensively studied, but the absence of valid experimental models has hampered our understanding of the early steps leading to loss of gluten tolerance. The minimally invasive autopsy (MIA), an innovative approach for obtaining post-mortem samples of key organs, is increasingly being recognized as a robust methodology for cause of death (CoD) investigation, albeit so far limited to pilot studies and research projects. A better understanding of the real causes of death in middle- and low-income countries, where underlying causes of death are seldom determined, would allow improved health planning, more targeted prioritization of available resources and the implementation of coherent public health policies. The zinc finger CCCTC-binding protein (CTCF) carries out many functions in the cell. Although previous studies sought to explain CTCF multivalency based on sequence composition of binding sites, few examined how CTCF post-translational modification (PTM) could contribute to function.
