Background: Apart from fusions and the common mutations, targetable molecular alterations are irrelevant for adjuvant treatment decision making in early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This retrospective analysis aimed to investigate if there is a difference in recurrence-free survival in stage I-III NSCLC harboring druggable molecular alterations compared to subtypes without targetable molecular alterations.
Methods: All consecutive patients who underwent surgery with curative intent for NSCLC (stage I-III) with targetable mutations between January 2015 and December 2020 at three Austrian institutions were identified and compared with tumors without targetable molecular alterations.
Background: The Minnesota Statewide Healthcare Coordination Center requested that the Minnesota Critical Care Working Group (CCWG) and Ethics Working Group (EWG), comprising interprofessional leaders from Minnesota's 9 largest health systems, plan and coordinate critical care operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the fall 2021 surge.
Research Question: Can a statewide working group collaboratively analyze real-time evidence to identify crisis conditions and to engage state leadership to implement care processes?
Study Design And Methods: The CCWG and EWG met via videoconferencing during the severe surge of fall 2021 to analyze evidence and plan for potential crisis care conditions. Five sources of evidence informed their actions: group consensus on operating conditions, federal teletracking data, the Medical Operations Coordination Center (MOCC) patient placement data, and 2 surveys created and distributed to hospitals and health care professionals.

Background And Objective: Erythropoietin (EPO) is a candidate neuroprotective drug. We assessed its long-term safety and efficacy as an adjunct to methylprednisolone in patients with optic neuritis and focused on conversions to multiple sclerosis (MS).
Methods: The TONE trial randomized 108 patients with acute optic neuritis but without previously known MS to either 33,000 IU EPO or placebo in conjunction with 1,000 mg methylprednisolone daily for 3 days.

Here, we develop single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) HDR templates (HDRTs) incorporating CTSs with reduced toxicity that boost knock-in efficiency and yield by an average of around two- to threefold relative to dsDNA CTSs. Using small-molecule combinations that enhance HDR, we could further increase knock-in efficiencies by an additional roughly two- to threefold on average.

Background: The inclusion of race in equations to estimate the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) has become controversial. Alternative equations that can be used to achieve similar accuracy without the use of race are needed.
Methods: In a large national study involving adults with chronic kidney disease, we conducted cross-sectional analyses of baseline data from 1248 participants for whom data, including the following, had been collected: race as reported by the participant, genetic ancestry markers, and the serum creatinine, serum cystatin C, and 24-hour urinary creatinine levels.
We study substitutional fluorine, chlorine and bromine impurities at CeO(111), and their effects on the oxygen chemistry of the surface, using density functional theory. We find that impurity formation results in a halide ion and one Ce ion for all three halogens, although the formation energy depends strongly on the identity of the halogen; however, once formed, all three halogens exhibit a similar propensity to form impurity-impurity pairs. Furthermore, while the effects of halogen impurities on oxygen vacancy formation are marginal, they are more significant for oxygen molecule adsorption, due to electron transfer from the Ce ion which results in an adsorbed superoxide molecule.
