Background: Temperature increases in the context of climate change affect numerous mental health outcomes. One such relevant outcome is involuntary admissions as these often relate to severe (life)threatening psychiatric conditions. Due to a shortage of studies into this topic, relationships between mean ambient temperature and involuntary admissions have remained largely elusive.

Mitochondrial oxygenation monitoring and acute kidney injury risk in cardiac surgery: A prospective cohort study.

Background: Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is a common complication of cardiac surgery and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Recent guidelines emphasize the need for new monitoring methods to facilitate targeted CSA-AKI prevention and treatment strategies. In vivo real-time measurement of mitochondrial oxygen tension (mitoPO), could potentially fulfil this role during cardiac surgery, as suggested in our previous pilot study.

Smooth muscle spheroids: Superior building blocks for bladder tissue engineering.

Background: Congenital bladder disorders in children necessitate innovative approaches for bladder tissue regeneration, aiming to minimize complications associated with conventional therapies. This study focused on generating a cell-seeded scaffold using superior smooth muscle cells (SMCs) by exploring the potential of smooth muscle cell spheroids (3D SMCs) compared to conventionally cultured SMCs (2D SMCs) for bladder tissue engineering. Additionally, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) were investigated for their impact on SMC proliferation and maturation, and pre-differentiated smooth muscle-like ADSCs (pADSCs) for their potential as alternative cell source.

The Experiences of Patients Who Participated in a Family Involvement Program After Abdominal Cancer Surgery: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis.

To prepare patients' families for active care roles after discharge, a family involvement program was developed. We aimed to gain in-depth insight into patients' well-being and experience during the program regarding the active involvement of family caregivers after oncological gastrointestinal cancer surgery during their hospital stay. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 patients who participated in the program.
