Background: Palliative systemic treatment is currently standard of care for metastatic gastric cancer. However, patients with peritoneal metastases of gastric origin are often underrepresented in clinical studies due to unmeasurable radiologic disease. This study describes the systemic treatment strategies and outcomes in patients with peritoneal metastases in a nationwide real-world setting.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examined the effects of slow-release insemination (SRI) versus standard intra-uterine insemination (IUI) on pregnancy rates in women with infertility or needing semen donation.
  • 182 women participated, with 96 receiving IUI first and 86 receiving SRI, and the main outcome was confirmed pregnancy two weeks post-insemination.
  • Overall pregnancy rates were similar between SRI (13.2%) and IUI (10.0%), but women under 35 showed significantly better rates with SRI (17%) compared to IUI (7%).
  • These findings suggest SRI may enhance pregnancy rates, particularly for younger women.

Objectives: Carbapenem resistance mediated by mobile genetic elements has emerged worldwide and has become a major public health threat. To gain insight into the molecular epidemiology of carbapenem resistance in The Netherlands, Dutch medical microbiology laboratories are requested to submit suspected carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment as part of a national surveillance system.

Methods: Meropenem MICs and species identification were confirmed by E-test and MALDI-TOF and carbapenemase production was assessed by the Carbapenem Inactivation Method.
