ITS2 rRNA Gene Sequence-Structure Phylogeny of the Chytridiomycota (Opisthokonta, Fungi).

To date, standard rRNA marker genes have had limited success in resolving the phylogeny of the phylum Chytridiomycota. Whereas the conserved and easily alignable ribosomal small subunit 18S rRNA gene had problems resolving nodes relating orders, the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) has been claimed to not be alignable for this group of organisms. Although the ITS2 is a fast-evolving locus, its secondary structure is well conserved.

Grain-Boundary Corrosion in UO from a Defect Chemical Perspective: A Case Study of the Σ5(310)[001] Grain Boundary.

We combine atomistic and continuum simulation methods to study the defect chemistry of a model grain boundary in UO. Using atomistic methods, we calculate the formation energies of oxygen interstitials, uranium vacancies, and hole polarons (U ions) across the Σ5(310)[001] symmetric tilt grain boundary. This information is then used as input in a continuum model of point-defect concentrations at the grain boundary and in its vicinity, taking into account electrostatic (space-charge) effects.

Background: Assessing maternal pain and satisfaction following administration of paracetamol vs. placebo prior to catheter balloon placement.

Methods: Primiparous women at term admitted for medically-indicated labor induction were randomized to receive intravenous paracetamol 1 gram in 100cc normal saline (N=71) or placebo of 100cc normal saline (N=70) prior to catheter balloon insertion.

Background: The increased use of digital data in health research demands interdisciplinary collaborations to address its methodological complexities and challenges. This often entails merging the linear deductive approach of health research with the explorative iterative approach of data science. However, there is a lack of structured teaching courses and guidance on how to effectively and constructively bridge different disciplines and research approaches.

The influence of anorexia nervosa on oral health and related parameters potentially relevant to orthodontic treatment: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objectives: Information on the oral health of patients with anorexia nervosa remains not satisfactory. The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate oral health parameters in anorexic patients compared to healthy individuals. Furthermore, potential clinical implications for orthodontic treatment are discussed from an orthodontic perspective.
