Multicellular cable bacteria display an exceptional form of biological conduction, channeling electric currents across centimeter distances through a regular network of protein fibers embedded in the cell envelope. The fiber conductivity is among the highest recorded for biomaterials, but the underlying mechanism of electron transport remains elusive. Here, we performed detailed characterization of the conductance from room temperature down to liquid helium temperature to attain insight into the mechanism of long-range conduction.

Article Synopsis
  • Clavicle fractures are the most common birth injury in newborns, and a systematic review was conducted to assess the effectiveness of ultrasound (US) for diagnosing these injuries.* -
  • Out of 231 initial studies, 7 were selected, examining 136 neonates; ultrasound accurately diagnosed all 135 confirmed fractures, while X-ray identified 95.7% of the fractures in a subset of patients.* -
  • The findings suggest that ultrasound is highly reliable for diagnosing clavicle fractures in newborns and should be regarded as the preferred method for this purpose.*

Human dental follicle cells (DFCs) as multipotent stem cells are currently investigated within the field of regenerative medicine considering their potential for the regeneration of dental tissues, bone defects caused by periodontal or degenerative diseases and the treatment of craniofacial disorders. However, molecular mechanisms of the differentiation into mineralizing cells are still inadequately understood. Previous studies have shown that GÖ6976, an inhibitor of classical isoforms of protein kinase C (PKC), enhanced ostogenic differentiation of DFCs.

Terrorist attacks involving children raised concern regarding the preparedness to treat pediatric trauma patients during mass casualty incidents (MCIs). The purpose of this project was to assess the resources available in Milan to respond to MCIs as the 2016 Bastille Day attack in Nice. Literature and guidelines were reviewed and minimal standard requirements of care of pediatric trauma patients in MCIs were identified.
