Understanding Ion Transport in Alkyl Dicarbonates: An Experimental and Computational Study.

In an effort to improve safety and cycling stability of liquid electrolytes, the use of dicarbonates has been explored. In this study, four dicarbonate structures with varying end groups and spacers are investigated. The effect of these structural differences on the physical and ion transport properties is elucidated, showing that the end group has a significant influence on ion transport.

Immunoblot evaluation of rubella humoral immunity in Portuguese women with negative or low-positive rubella IgG.

Despite its low incidence in Europe, rubella's immune status is still routinely assessed using commercial immunoassays. However, some discrepancies have been observed between these tests and the Immunoblot. The main objective of this study is to evaluate, by a commercial immunoblot, the immune status of a female population that had previously presented negative, low-positive, or equivocal rubella IgG with a commercial immunoassay.

Chikungunya: From Hypothesis to Evidence of Increased Severe Disease and Fatalities.

Chikungunya virus infection often manifests as an acute, self-limiting febrile illness, with arthralgia and musculoskeletal symptoms being the most commonly reported. Arthralgia can persist for months or even years, and approximately 50% of cases progress to chronic conditions. However, recent outbreaks have revealed a rising number of severe cases and fatalities.

Prevalence of complications of buccal fat removal: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Removal of the buccal fat pad can be considered safe as long as there is a detailed analysis of anatomical landmarks. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of intra- and postoperative complications resulting from buccal fat pad removal through a systematic review. The search strategy involved observational and/or interventional studies in humans that included at least one case of buccal fat pad removal with a description of the surgery, postoperative progress, and complications.

In vitro assays identified thiohydantoins with anti-trypanosomatid activity and molecular modelling studies indicated possible selective CYP51 inhibition.

This work investigates the anti-trypanosomal activities of ten thiohydantoin derivatives against the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. Compounds with aliphatic chains (THD1, THD3, and THD5) exhibited the most promising IC against the epimastigote form of T. cruzi.
