A hyperfunctioning differentiated thyroid carcinoma is a rare occurrence. Nevertheless, this diagnosis must be considered in a scintigraphically hot nodule if there is a clinical or sonographic suggestion of malignancy. The case of a 57-year old patient with hyperthyreosis and a scintigraphically hot thyroid nodule is presented.

A study was conducted to compare the new MED-EL TEMPO+ ear-level speech processor with the CIS PRO+ body-worn processor in the COMBI 40/COMBI 40+ implant system. Speech tests were performed in 46 experienced subjects in two test sessions approximately 4 weeks apart. Subjects were switched over from the CIS PRO+ to the TEMPO+ in the first session and used only the TEMPO+ in the time between the two sessions.

The metastatic behaviour of renal cell carcinoma has been studied in a series of 687 necropsies. The observations were consistent with the concept of "metastatic inefficiency", in that in 295 cases, including 25 with renal vein invasion, there were no detectable metastases. In the present series, renal vein involvement was not an important prognostic factor in stage 1 or 2 disease.
