Negative symptoms of schizophrenia have a great impact on patients' functioning and are among the most important contributors to subject's disability. However, few studies have assessed the role of type and severity of symptomatology of schizophrenia on the psychiatric care resource utilization. We investigated if the clinical profile of patients at discharge from an index hospitalization might be associated with a different use of psychiatric care resources in the subsequent 1-year period in a large population of patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
