Prevalence of and risk factors for osteoporosis and fragility fracture in adults with cerebral palsy: A systematic review.

Aim: To systematically review the prevalence and incidence of osteoporosis, osteopenia, low bone mass, and fragility fracture in adults with cerebral palsy (CP), and identify the risk factors for osteoporosis and fracture.

Method: A systematic literature search was performed in the MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, AMED, Cochrane Reviews, EMBASE, and EBM database reviews from inception until May 2024. Search terms covered a combination of keywords for CP, fracture, osteoporosis, incidence and prevalence, and risk factors.

Impaired Muscle Parameters in Individuals With Premature Ovarian Insufficiency: A Pilot Study.

Context: Although bone loss is a recognized consequence of premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), the impact on skeletal muscle health is less well-defined.

Objective: To compare muscle mass and function parameters between women with POI and controls.

Methods: Cross-sectional study from a tertiary health network and community between 2017 and 2023.

Clinical protocol using calcium and calcitriol after paediatric total thyroidectomy decreases postoperative hypocalcaemia and inpatient blood tests.

Introduction: Postoperative hypocalcaemia is common after thyroidectomy. This study aimed to evaluate whether a standardised post-thyroidectomy protocol using prophylactic calcium and calcitriol reduces hypocalcaemia incidence after total thyroidectomy in children and adolescents.

Methods: A cohort children and adolescents ≤18 years of age undergoing total thyroidectomy between January 2016 and October 2022 in one institution were retrospectively identified and divided into pre-protocol and post-protocol groups.

Sex Hormone Treatment for Female Children and Young Adults with Disorders Affecting Hypothalamic, Pituitary, and Ovarian Function.

Background: Normal hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) endocrine function is essential for female pubertal and psychosocial development and for ongoing adult physical, sexual, and psychosocial health. Girls with hypogonadism, any endocrine disorder causing abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) or with contraception needs may require sex hormone treatment. Challenges include evolving needs of a young girl through the course of sexual maturation, potential health risks related to the use of sex hormones for pubertal induction, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), menstrual management, and/or contraception.
