Non-indicated vitamin B- and D-testing among Dutch hospital clinicians: a cross-sectional analysis in data registries.

Objectives: To assess the extent of non-indicated vitamin B- and D-testing among Dutch clinicians and its variation among hospitals.

Design: Cross-sectional study using registration data from 2015 to 2019.

Participants: Patients aged between 18 and 70 years who received a vitamin B- or D-test.

Prognostic factors for continence after surgical correction of ectopic ureters of 51 dogs with long-term follow-up.

Background: An ectopic ureter is a congenital malformation characterized by caudal displacement of one or both ureteral orifices and is the most common cause of urinary incontinence in young dogs. Complete resolution of incontinence after surgery has been reported in 25-82% of dogs. The aim of this study was to identify preoperative prognostic factors for continence after surgical treatment of dogs with an ectopic ureter.

[Outcome of selective mating in the Entlebucher Mountain Dog for reduction of ureteral ectopia].

The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is predisposed to ureteral ectopia and associated diseases of the urinary tract as well as the kidneys, which can have severe to lethal consequences. Due to the clustered occurrence of clinical signs in 11 % of Entlebucher Mountain dogs in the absence of a genetic test for ureteral ectopia, screening was introduced in 2008 to allow phenotype-based breeding selection. The ureteral orifices of the dogs are visualized by ultrasound and existing urinary retention or urinary incontinence is documented.

Association between public media and trends in new acute coronary syndrome presentations during the first COVID‑19 wave in the Netherlands.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the association between public media and trends in new presentations of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) during the first wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19) in the Netherlands.

Methods: New ACS presentations per week in 73 hospitals during the first half of 2019 and 2020 were retrieved from the national organisation Dutch Hospital Data and incidence rates were calculated. Stratified analyses were performed by region, type of ACS and patient characteristics.

Moralized Rationality: Relying on Logic and Evidence in the Formation and Evaluation of Belief Can Be Seen as a Moral Issue.

In the present article we demonstrate stable individual differences in the extent to which a reliance on logic and evidence in the formation and evaluation of beliefs is perceived as a moral virtue, and a reliance on less rational processes is perceived as a vice. We refer to this individual difference variable as moralized rationality. Eight studies are reported in which an instrument to measure individual differences in moralized rationality is validated.
