Amplification of attosecond pulses produced via high harmonic generation is a formidable problem since none of the amplifiers can support the corresponding PHz bandwidth. Producing the well defined polarization state common for a set of harmonics required for formation of the circularly/elliptically polarized attosecond pulses (which are on demand for dynamical imaging and coherent control of the spin flip processes) is another big challenge. In this work we show how both problems can be tackled simultaneously on the basis of the same platform, namely, the plasma-based X-ray amplifier whose resonant transition frequency is modulated by an infrared field.

We investigate numerically and analytically the polarization properties of high-order harmonics generated by an atom in intense elliptically polarized laser field. The offset angle of the harmonic polarization ellipse can be well described with the semiclassic "simple-man" high-harmonic generation model. The harmonic ellipticity itself, however, can be hardly understood within this model.

We present the detailed theoretical study of single attosecond pulse production from excited molecules driven by intense laser pulse. We demonstrate the possibility for continuously tunable soft x-ray production via high-order harmonic generation from a stretched aligned molecule undergoing Coulomb-barrier suppression ionization. This frequency tuning results from the quantum interference of free-electron wave packets emanating from different nuclei.

We present the results of numerical experiments on a two-dimensional model atom driven by a high-intense laser pulse. The electron wave-packet behavior is studied in a range of laser parameters corresponding to the dynamic stabilization regime. Wave packet localization in this regime with arbitrary laser polarizations is shown to manifest itself macroscopically by high-order harmonic production in the form of long trains of attosecond pulses.
