Through their accumulation in soils, microplastics have recently become a matter of concern. The aim of this review is to assemble and investigate the recent studies about microplastics in soil by focusing on their sources, occurrence, fate in soil, and analytical methods. The objective is also to clarify and elucidate their potential impacts on soil fauna, plants and microorganisms.

The behavior and removal of roxithromycin (ROX), oxytetracycline (OTC), chlortetracycline (CTC), and enrofloxacin (ENR) were investigated during the steady state of sludge anaerobic digestion (AD) in semi-continuous mode (37 °C). Sludge was spiked at realistic concentrations (50 μg/L of each antibiotic) and then used to feed the bioreactor for 80 days. Antibiotics were extracted from the substrate and digested sludge samples by accelerated solvent extraction (ASE).

Three different enzymes alkaline phosphatase, Urease and Dehydrogenase were measured during this study to monitor the organic matter dynamics during semi-industrial composting of mixture A with 1/3 sludge+2/3 palm waste and mixture B with ½ sludge+1/2 palm waste. The phosphatase activity was higher for Mix-A (398.7 µg PNP g h) than Mix-B (265.

Article Synopsis
  • The extremotolerant red yeast can survive harsh environmental conditions and has a unique ability to produce lipids and carotenoids when stressed.
  • Research was conducted on how nitrogen stress affects the Antarctic yeast M94C9, revealing that varying nitrogen levels impact biomass and lipid production while causing structural changes in the yeast.
  • Key genes involved in lipid production were identified, and under nitrogen limitation, specific fatty acids like oleic and palmitic acids were found to accumulate, providing insights for potential industrial applications.
