Implementation of a Medical Ethics Course in Undergraduate Dental Education and Assessment of Knowledge and Attitudes.

Objectives: A medical ethics course was launched in 2012 in a French University Dental School. We compared knowledge and attitudes, before and after implementation of that course. The aim of this study was to compare students who received an ethics course (third year) to those who did not have such training, however, most of them did have some clinical traineeship.

The coping capacity of the children during dental care depends on different factors such as age, cognitive development, personal history and social background. A good knowledge and understanding of child developmental stages will help the dentist to treat them successfully. Parental presence during treatment has been largely discussed in pediatrics and pediatric dentistry.

Dentin structure in familial hypophosphatemic rickets: benefits of vitamin D and phosphate treatment.

Objective: To evaluate the outcome of 1-(OH) vitamin D and oral phosphate treatment on dentin structure in patients with familial hypophosphatemic rickets, and expression of SIBLINGs (a family of non-collagenous proteins involved in dentinogenesis) and osteocalcin.

Patients And Methods: Seven patients with familial hypophosphatemic rickets (age 3-16 years) were studied before or during treatment. Deciduous and permanent teeth were prepared for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis and immunohistochemistry.

Sedation with 50% nitrous oxide/oxygen for outpatient dental treatment in individuals with intellectual disability.

Persons with intellectual disability have difficulty in cooperating with outpatient care, and many are referred for general anaesthesia. Intellectual disability has traditionally been a contraindication for conscious sedation. We evaluated the behavioural impact, effectiveness, and tolerance of sedation in this population using a fixed 50% nitrous oxide/oxygen mixture as a single agent.
