This study aimed to evaluate the immediate effect of Game Ready (GR) heat-cold compression contrast therapy (HCCT) on changes in the biomechanical parameters of the quadriceps femoris muscles and tissue perfusion. Fifteen male MMA fighters were subjected to HCCT on the dominant leg's thigh and control sham therapy on the other. The experimental intervention used a pressure cuff with the following parameters: time-20 min; pressure-25-75 mmHg; and temp.

Introduction: Households are increasingly studied in population health research as an important context for understanding health and social behaviours and outcomes. Identifying household units of analysis in routinely collected data rather than traditional surveys requires innovative and standardised tools, which do not currently exist.

Objectives: To design a utility that identifies households at a point in time from pseudonymised Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) known as Residential Anonymised Linkage Fields (RALFs) assigned to general practitioner (GP) patient addresses in electronic health records (EHRs) in north east London (NEL).

Article Synopsis
  • Heart failure (HF) is a serious condition where the heart fails to pump enough blood, leading to poor organ function and fluid accumulation.
  • Recent research highlights the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in regulating gene expression related to HF, implicating specific miRNAs like miR-30d and miR-126-3p in heart function and remodeling.
  • Understanding both traditional biomarkers (like natriuretic peptides and troponins) and newer diagnostic methods can enhance the management of HF and its impact on other organs like the kidneys and liver.

Background/objectives: In this study, serum selenium levels in patients with Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) were evaluated to identify potential predictive markers of disease activity. Conducted in 100 inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients (54 CD, 46 UC) and 100 healthy controls, this research provides novel insights through focusing on the regional selenium status of people with IBD in the Polish population, a demographic with limited existing data.

Methods: Selenium concentrations were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to assess the relationship between flow measurements from left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) and invasive cardiac output measurements using different methods.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 102 LVAD patients, identifying significant discordance between methods, where 45% had differences when using indirect Fick and 48% with thermodilution compared to pump flow.
  • The findings suggested that while LVAD flow estimates correlate strongly with traditional cardiac output measures, particularly thermodilution, the correlation improves when low indirect Fick values are excluded.
