Contactin-associated protein-like 2 autoimmunity is an uncommon disorder resulting in peripheral nerve hyperexcitability or encephalitis. In a fifth of cases, onset may be provoked by thymoma, but other associations are largely unknown. We report a patient with anti-contactin-associated protein-like 2-related peripheral nerve hyperexcitability arising in the setting of Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 4F and discuss potential mechanisms underlying the association.

It is associated with human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) infection. Definitive diagnosis is supported by classic histopathology including slit-like vascular spaces, spindle cells, lymphocyte infiltration, and extravasated red blood cells on H&E stain and positive immunohistochemical (IHC) staining for HHV-8.

This study was undertaken to investigate whether prior antioxidant supplementation had a beneficial effect on subsequent myocardial ischemic/reperfusion injury and whether addition of ascorbate during ischemia/reperfusion had any effect. Supplementation with antioxidants resulted in elevated concentrations of myocardial alpha-tocopherol, but not of ascorbate. Combined supplementation with alpha-tocopherol, beta-carotene and ascorbic acid gave the highest myocardial alpha-tocopherol concentration.
