Introduction: Splanchnic venous thrombosis (SVT) has varied etiology with Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) being the most frequent underlying prothrombotic factor. Hematological indices often remain within normal range because of portal hypertension and its sequelae, causing diagnostic challenges. The high frequency of JAK2 mutation among patients with SVT reinforces the diagnostic utility of JAK2V617F testing.

This study was undertaken to determine the incidence, type, imputability, severity, and possible associated factors of ATRs observed in a university-affiliated hospital in Uganda.
Study Design And Methods: We prospectively followed the transfusion of blood units issued over a 7-week period from the hospital blood bank during regular working hours to nonbleeding patients.
Background: Vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with a wide spectrum of neuro-psychiatric manifestations.
Results: We report a case of a 44 year old female patient referred to the haematology unit with vitamin B12 deficiency presenting as an acute confusional state or delirium. Total resolution of the psychiatric symptoms occurred following parenteral vitamin B12 replacement therapy.
Background: We determined the prevalence and factors associated with hyperlactatemia among HIV patients admitted on the emergency ward of a national hospital in Uganda.
Objective: We were specifically interested in knowing whether there was an association between clinically significant hyperlactatemia and concurrent antiretroviral therapy (ART) use.
