Simultaneous Remote Laparoscopic Training for Trainees Among Multiple Institutions: Can Remote Coaching Replace On-Site Coaching?

Introduction: Regional disparities in medical practice between urban and rural areas in Japan represent a critical issue, and extend to the field of surgical education. To address these disparities, we evaluated the effectiveness of simultaneous remote coaching across multiple facilities using a standardized laparoscopic training method.

Methods: A total of 28 trainees from a university hospital and 3 rural hospitals were categorized into remote and on-site coaching groups.

Investigating self-supervised image denoising with denaturation.

Self-supervised learning for image denoising problems in the presence of denaturation for noisy data is a crucial approach in machine learning. However, theoretical understanding of the performance of the approach that uses denatured data is lacking. To provide better understanding of the approach, in this paper, we analyze a self-supervised denoising algorithm that uses denatured data in depth through theoretical analysis and numerical experiments.

Urinary excretion profiles of the orexin receptor antagonist suvorexant and its metabolites.

Purpose: Suvorexant is an orexin receptor antagonist used in the treatment of insomnia. In this study, we investigated the urinary excretion profiles of suvorexant and its major metabolites, including conjugates, to obtain fundamental information for proving exposure to suvorexant in criminal cases.

Methods: Urine specimens were collected from three subjects for maximum 168 h after a single oral ingestion of suvorexant (10 mg), and suvorexant and its metabolites in urine were determined using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry with a C18 semi-micro column.

Risks and Prevention of Severe Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection among Infants and Children with Pulmonary Hypoplasia, Airway Stenosis, Congenital Esophageal Atresia, Inborn Errors of Metabolism, or Neuromuscular Diseases in Japan.

Background: In March 2024, children with pulmonary hypoplasia, airway stenosis, congenital esophageal atresia, inborn errors of metabolism, and neuromuscular diseases became eligible for palivizumab in Japan. Despite limited epidemiological data, expert consensus guided the recommendation for palivizumab use in these children to ensure its proper application.

Objectives: This article outlines the proper use of palivizumab for RSV infection in infants and children with the specified conditions, aiming to enhance understanding of the medical basis for its clinical guidance.
