SliceChip: a benchtop fluidic platform for organotypic culture and serial assessment of human and rodent pancreatic slices.

Enzymatically isolated pancreatic islets are the most commonly used testbeds for diabetes research. Recently, precision-cut living slices of human pancreas are emerging as an exciting alternative because they maintain the complex architecture of the endocrine and exocrine tissues, and do not suffer from the mechanical and chemical stress of enzymatic isolation. We report a fluidic pancreatic SliceChip platform with dynamic environmental controls that generates a warm, oxygenated, and bubble-free fluidic pathway across singular immobilized slices with continuous deliver of fresh media and the ability to perform repeat serial perfusion assessments.

Pentagalloyl Glucose (PGG) Prevents and Restores Mechanical Changes Caused by Elastic Fiber Fragmentation in the Mouse Ascending Aorta.

Thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) is characterized by dilation of the aorta that can lead to dissection or rupture. Degradation of elastic fibers is a consistent histopathological feature of TAA that likely contributes to disease progression. Pentagalloyl glucose (PGG) shows promise for stabilizing elastic fibers in abdominal aortic aneurysms, but its efficacy and mechanical effects in the thoracic aorta are unknown.

COSPAR Sample Safety Assessment Framework (SSAF).

The Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) Sample Safety Assessment Framework (SSAF) has been developed by a COSPAR appointed Working Group. The objective of the sample safety assessment would be to evaluate whether samples returned from Mars could be harmful for Earth's systems ( environment, biosphere, geochemical cycles). During the Working Group's deliberations, it became clear that a comprehensive assessment to predict the effects of introducing life in new environments or ecologies is difficult and practically impossible, even for terrestrial life and certainly more so for unknown extraterrestrial life.

Rare tumors in pediatrics. First report in Argentina.

Introduction: Collaborative clinical trials have enlarged the knowledge base about pediatric tumors; however, this is not the case for rare tumors (RT).

Objective: To describe the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and course of RT in pediatric patients diagnosed at Hospital Garrahan.

Material And Methods: Descriptive, retrospective study of patients aged 0-18 years diagnosed with a RT and admitted between January 2007 and December 2017.

Childhood liver tumors in Argentina: Incidence trend and survival by treatment center. A report from the national pediatric cancer registry, ROHA network 2000-2015.

Background: Information on the epidemiology of pediatric liver tumors in Latin America is limited.

Purpose: To describe the incidence of liver tumors in a pediatric registry in Argentina according to geographic region, national trends over 16 years, and survival related to stage, age, sex, and care center.

Methods: Newly diagnosed liver tumors cases are registered in the Argentine Pediatric Oncology Hospital Registry (ROHA) with an estimated coverage of 91% of national cases.
