Right ventricular cardiomyopathy meeting the arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia revised criteria? Don't forget sarcoidosis!

A 53-year-old woman was referred for ventricular fibrillation with resuscitation. A CT-angiography showed signs of a right ventricular enlargement without obvious cause. A cardiac MRI demonstrated a dilated and hypokinetic right ventricle with extensive late gadolinium enhancement.

Background: Endosonography combined with fine needle aspiration (FNA) is a minimally invasive technique for intrathoracic mediastinal nodal sampling. The value of endosonography with FNA for the diagnosis of malignant mediastinal lymphoma is under debate. In this study, the sensitivity and negative predictive value of endosonography for the assessment of primary versus recurrent malignant lymphoma were assessed.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration for the diagnosis of sarcoidosis.

Background And Study Aims: Transesophageal endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) of mediastinal lymph nodes is increasingly used to detect noncaseating granulomas in patients with suspected sarcoidosis. The optimal needle size and tissue processing method for detecting noncaseating granulomas are debated. We assessed the value of cell-block analysis when added to conventional cytological evaluation of EUS aspirates obtained by 22-gauge needles in patients with stage I and II sarcoidosis.

Impression cytology of melanocytic conjunctival tumours using the Biopore membrane.

Purpose: To compare a new Biopore membrane impression cytology method with the routinely used exfoliative cytology in patients with a melanocytic lesion of the conjunctiva.

Methods: Sixty-eight consecutive patients with a conjunctival melanocytic lesion underwent Biopore membrane impression cytology as well as exfoliative cytology. A histologic sample was also available in 26 cases.

Predictive value of exfoliative cytology in pigmented conjunctival lesions.

Purpose: Pigmented lesions of the conjunctiva are often difficult to classify clinically. Exfoliative cytology may be helpful, but reliable data regarding the sensitivity and specificity of this test are currently lacking. We determined the value of exfoliative cytology with regard to pigmented conjunctival lesions.
