Bioinspired hydroxypyridinone (HOPO)functionalized materials are shown to display a remarkable capacity for stability and for chelating a wide array of metal ions. This allows for the synthesis of multifunctional networks with diverse physical properties when compared to traditional catechol systems. In the present study, we report a facile, one-pot synthesis of an amino HOPO ligand and simple, scalable incorporation into PEG-acrylate based networks via active ester chemistry.

The aims of this study were to measure the antimicrobial activity against anaerobic bacteria of the gut human microbiome and establish the extent that disulfiram alters the microbial composition of the ileum, cecum, and feces using C57BL/6 mice.
Methods And Results: Antimicrobial susceptibility testing by the microdilution method revealed that disulfiram inhibits the in vitro growth of gut anaerobic species of Bacteroides, Clostridium, Peptostreptococcus, and Porphyromonas.
This report presents the case of a seven-year-old child diagnosed with Grisel's syndrome following a craniotomy for a cystic brain lesion. The patient initially presented with persistent, progressively worsening headaches that coincided with neurological symptoms. Imaging revealed a massive cystic lesion causing a significant compression and midline shift.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe professional identity of scientists has historically been cultivated to value research over teaching, which can undermine initiatives that aim to reform science education. Course-Based Research Experiences (CRE) and the inclusive Research and Education Communities (iREC) are two successful and impactful reform efforts that integrate research and teaching. The aim of this study is to explicate the professional identity of instructors who implement a CRE within an established iREC and to explore how this identity contributes to the success of these programs.
