Background: Fertility centre websites are a key sources of information on medically assisted reproduction (MAR) for both infertile people and the general public. As part of a global fertility market, they are also a window to attract potential future patients. They give formal and practical information but in the way the information is displayed, they also convey social representations, and in particular, gender representation in its intersectional dimension.

However, few have assessed their sexual quality of life and other issues related to patient intimacy have not yet been addressed. View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: To study the social dimension of age-related female infertility through an analysis of three key themes: the personal life histories of infertile women over 40 years of age; representations of age and the desire to become pregnant after age 40; opinions of French legislations framing Assisted Reproductive Technologies, age limits, egg donation, and egg freezing for non-medical reasons.
Methods: This qualitative sociological study was based on semi-structured interviews with infertile women over age 40 going through fertility treatments. The interviews contained three parts: personal and relationship histories; experiences related to age; opinions related to French legislation.
Tubular aggregate myopathy is a genetically heterogeneous disease characterized by tubular aggregates as the hallmark on muscle biopsy. Mutations in STIM1 have recently been identified as one genetic cause in a number of tubular aggregate myopathy cases. To characterize the pattern of muscle involvement in this disease, upper and lower girdles and lower limbs were imaged in five patients with mutations in STIM1, and the scans were compared with two patients with tubular aggregate myopathy not caused by mutations in STIM1.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Delay in diagnosis of anaemia during preoperative assessment poses logistic problems, leading to multiple clinic visits, inadequate preoperative management, and unnecessary delay of surgery. Therefore, we tested an instant spectrophotometric haemoglobin (SpHb) measurement technique to facilitate this assessment.
Methods: We evaluated portable instant SpHb vs standard laboratory screening of anaemia between March 2012 and December 2013.
