Purpose: Based on the assumption that bronchial asthma has not only inflammatory, but also certain neurogenic paroxysmal mechanism and pathophysiological links with other non-epileptic paroxysmal inflammatory diseases--migraine and trigeminal neuralgia, we decided to investigate efficacy of antiepileptic drug carbamazepine in patients with moderate persistent or severe asthma.

Methods: Sixty-three patients completed randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Results: Stable remission was achieved after carbamazepine treatment in 25 patients in active group (n=33).

Based on the investigation of 33 distal and 163 proximal muscles in myasthenic patients in which posttetanic and postactivation facilitation was studied and adequate proserin doses injected, the authors have shown the "block" phenomenon to be most pronounced in proximal muscles. The authors offered to use the reversibility coefficient as reflecting the possible restoration of neuromuscular conduction. Evaluation of the "block" and a reversibility coefficient plays major role in assessment of contribution of presynaptic structures to operation of mechanisms dicturbing the neuromuscular conductance in myasthenia.
