Article Synopsis
  • Therapeutic oligonucleotides are modified to improve their ability to bind target RNA, primarily by enhancing binding affinity through changes in the sugar conformation.
  • Researchers found that introducing hydrocarbon bridges between nucleotides can improve the alignment of the nucleic acids, making them more effective at base-pairing.
  • The study specifically details the creation of locked nucleic acid trimers using alkylphosphonate tethers, which limit the movement of both the sugar and the sugar-phosphate backbone to further boost hybridization efficiency.

Objectives: We aimed to compare cell-based NIPT (cbNIPT) to chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and to examine the test characteristics of cbNIPT in the first clinical validation study of cbNIPT compared to cell-free NIPT (cfNIPT).

Material And Methods: Study 1: Women (N = 92) who accepted CVS were recruited for cbNIPT (53 normal and 39 abnormal). Samples were analyzed with chromosomal microarray (CMA).

Aims: Myocardial dysfunction is well described after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA); however, the underlying mechanisms are not yet understood. We hypothesized that this dysfunction is associated to a global myocardial oedema. Using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), we assessed the presence of such oedema early after successful resuscitation from OHCA.

Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease, that involves both pro- and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. The purpose of the present study is to investigate T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain 3 (Tim-3) in RA.

Methods: Plasma levels of soluble (s) Tim-3 in early RA (n=98), were followed, to evaluate association with treatment and disease activity, acquired from a prospective collected biobank (clinicaltrials.

Objectives: The consultation of women aspiring a vaginal birth after caesarean may be improved by integrating the individual evaluation of factors that predict their chance of success. Retrospective analysis of correlating factors for all trials of labor after caesarean that were conducted at the Department of Obstetrics of Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Virchow Clinic from 2014 to October 2017.

Methods: Of 2,151 pregnant women with previous caesarean, 408 (19%) attempted a vaginal birth after cesarean.
