Physical partner violence is widely recognized as a global health problem, especially in pregnant women. This study determines the association between physical violence during pregnancy in Peruvian women aged 15 to 49 years with low birth weight and abortion according to the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) 2019. We report a case of Rickettsia sibirica mongolitimonae infection, an emerging tickborne rickettsiosis, with associated encephalitis in a 66-year-old man. Diagnosis was rapidly confirmed by quantitative PCR obtained from an eschar swab sample. The patient was successfully treated with oral doxycycline.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the highest rates reported for Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina. We provide a global snapshot of the CRC patterns, how screening is performed, and compared/contrasted to the genetic profile of Lynch syndrome (LS) in the region. From the literature, we find that only nine (20%) of the Latin America and the Caribbean countries have developed guidelines for early detection of CRC, and also with a low adherence.

Introduction: The field of abnormal movements is an area that is in continual expansion within Neurology and treatment is currently available for many of them, at least as far as the symptoms are concerned. Yet, the exact mechanisms of operation of the neurological structures involved in movement are not fully understood.

Development: It seems clear that the basal ganglia play an important role, fundamentally in pseudo-automatic movements, but because they are interconnected with many other structures it is difficult to gain a precise understanding of their individual functions.
