Introduction: The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP2) defines sarcopenia as a muscle disease (muscle failure) rooted in adverse muscle changes that accrue across a lifetime; sarcopenia is common among adults of older age. New findings on the hormonal and metabolic characteristics of patients with sarcopenia have aided in developing more targeted therapeutic strategies. However, treating older patients with sarcopenia still poses a number of challenges.

Planetary Laser Interferometric Seismoacoustic Observatory.

The paper describes a planetary laser interferometric seismoacoustic observatory consisting of six stationary unequal arm laser strainmeters. Based on the triangulation method, the fundamentals of direction finding of various infrasound disturbances at any planetary distance have been developed. The authors show that in addition to determining locations of the occurrence of the recorded disturbance, using data from spatially separated laser strainmeters, it is possible to determine the nature of these signals' divergence and, also, the loss of their energy in the propagation medium.

Previously, we confirmed systemic antihypertensive and antioxidant properties of L. leaf extract (UE) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Here, we aimed to evaluate whether UE can alter the NO and Nrf-2 signaling to prevent local oxidative stress and kidney damage in the model of essential hypertension.

Apocynin and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Improve Renal Function and Structure in an Animal Model of CKD.

Background/objectives: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive pathological condition which results in the severe fibrosis of the kidneys. However, the mechanisms of CKD progression and fibrogenesis remain unclear. We wanted to examine the effects that apocynin and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) have on renal function and structure in animals with CKD induced through 5/6 nephrectomy (5/6 Nx-L).
