Neurological syndromes associated with COVID-19: a multicenter study in Brazil.

Background: Neurological manifestations associated with COVID-19 remain partially described, mainly in low- and middle-income countries where diagnostic tools are limited. To address this, we assembled medical centers in Brazil with the goal of describing neurological syndromes associated with COVID-19 during the first wave of the pandemic.

Methods: From June 1st, 2020 to June 1st, 2021, non-consecutive adult patients with new onset of six neurological syndromes up to 60 days after confirmed COVID-19 were included.

New insights into chitosan-Ag nanocomposites synthesis: Physicochemical aspects of formation, structure-bioactivity relationship and mechanism of antioxidant activity.

Herein, a novel approach to the controlled formation of chitosan-Ag nanocomposites (NCs) with different structures and tunable chemical/biological properties was proposed. The chitosan-Ag NCs were obtained using hydrothermal synthesis and varying the concentrations of components. The hypothesis of chitosan-Ag NC synthesis using polysaccharide coils as a "microreactor" system was confirmed.

Hypopigmented mycosis fungoides: an important differential diagnosis of hypochromias in childhood.

Objective: To highlight the importance of early recognition of hypopigmented mycosis fungoides (HMF) in cases of cutaneous hypochromia in children, with a view to an effective diagnostic and therapeutic approach.

Case Description: Two cases of HMF in children are reported. The first case involves an eight-year-old boy with hypochromic macules on the trunk and root of the upper and lower limbs, while the second case is a six-year-old boy with widespread hypochromic patches.

Safety and immunogenicity of different 17DD yellow fever vaccines in golden-headed tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas): Inhibition of viremia and RNAemia after homologous live-attenuated vaccination.

Yellow fever (YF) is a viral disease that affects both humans and non-human primates (NHPs). Neotropical monkeys are more severely stricken by YF and the impact of the disease can be devastating to the endangered golden-headed lion tamarins (GHLTs, Leontopithecus chrysomelas). Susceptible GHLTs were immunized with the commercial Brazilian YF 17DD live attenuated vaccine or two other experimental non-replicating YF vaccines: a purified whole-virus, b-propiolactone-inactivated vaccine and a plant-derived recombinant subunit vaccine.

First report of a cat (Felis catus) infected by Leishmania (Viannia) guyanensis from Southeastern Brazil.

Feline leishmaniasis is increasingly recognized as a disease affecting cats worldwide, with notable prevalence in regions surrounding the Mediterranean Basin and in Brazil. An approximately one-year-old domestic shorthair cat was presented with small papules and nodules (2 mm) on the nasal planum. Physical examination and routine blood analyses were normal.
