One of the main complications of diabetes is nephropathy, which is also the main cause of kidney failure. Once diagnosed, in Mexican patients the kidney damage is already highly compromised, which is why acting preventively is extremely important.

Leptospirosis is a zoonosis caused by spirochete Leptospira. Pathogenic leptospires evade the Complement System, enabling their survival upon contact with normal human serum in vitro. In a previous study, we demonstrated that proteases secreted by pathogenic leptospires cleave several Complement proteins, including C3 and the opsonins C3b and iC3b.

Diaphragmatic Hernia Repair in Adult Patients: A Retrospective Institutional Experience.

Objectives Diaphragmatic hernias (DHs) in adults are an uncommon condition in which general characteristics and treatment strategies are poorly described. The objective of this study was to describe our institutional experience in the surgical repair of DH in adult patients. Methods A cross-sectional review was conducted on adult patients with DH who were diagnosed and surgically treated between 2012 and 2023 at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias in Mexico City.

New low-dose curcumin derivative with therapeutic potential in Alzheimer's disease: Results from an in vitro and in vivo study in mice.

Curcumin has been proposed as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease (AD) due to its ability to inhibit amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide aggregates and to destabilise pre-formed ones. Derivative 27 was synthesized to improve low-dose efficacy in the context of AD. Its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-amyloidogenic activities were evaluated in chemico, in vitro using AD and neuroinflammation cell models, and in vivo using the double-transgenic APP/PS1 mice.
