L-asparagine functionalized gold nanoparticles (Asp-AuNPs) were synthesized by reducing HAuCl in the presence of L-asparagine at 70 °C for 8 hours, producing spherical nanoparticles of about 13.5 ± 3.7 nm in size.
Asp-AuNPs demonstrated excellent catalytic properties in degrading various organic dyes, including Rhodamine B, methyl orange, acid red 27, and xylenol orange, particularly in the presence of sodium borohydride.
The degradation reactions followed pseudo-first order kinetics, with rate constants of 0.904 min, 0.314 min, 0.228 min, and 0.1 min for Rhodamine B,
