Ultrasound, radiographs, and clinical symptoms in developmental dislocation of the hip: a study of 170 patients.

We evaluated ultrasound findings in developmental dislocation of the hip in relation to clinical signs, risk factors, and radiographic measurements. The ultrasound rating was determined according to the method of Graf. An ultrasound rating > IIa was considered abnormal.

Carpo-tarsal osteolysis. Case report and review of the literature.

A hereditary form of multicentric osteolysis is described in an 11-year-old girl whose father is also affected. The results after corrective surgery on the foot with the Ilizarov fixator and the findings during arthroscopy of the knee are discussed. The literature is reviewed.

Metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal flexion of the thumb: influence of sex and age, relation to ligamentous injury.

The flexion of the metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints of both thumbs of 101 normal controls and of 10 patients with ligamentous injuries was measured. There is a close correlation between dominant and nondominant thumbs. With advancing age mobility of both joints decreases significantly.

Conservative treatment of displaced supracondylar humerus fractures of the extension type in children.

Numerous methods for the treatment of displaced supracondylar humerus fractures of the extension type are described in the literature. From 1974 until 1988, we treated conservatively 33 children with such fractures with Dunlop traction. Twenty-nine patients (88%) were re-examined.

Etiologic factors of jaundice in severely ill patients. A retrospective study in patients admitted to an intensive care unit with severe trauma or with septic intra-abdominal complications following surgery and without evidence of bile duct obstruction.

In order to understand the pathophysiology of jaundice in severely ill patients, we have examined several possible promoting factors in a retrospective study of 86 patients with multiple organ failure admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). Patients with bile duct obstruction were excluded from this study. Cholestatic jaundice had developed in 19 of 54 patients after trauma and in 20 of 32 patients after septic intra-abdominal complications.
