Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented challenges in the field of global health. Nigeria, Indonesia and India are three high tuberculosis (TB) burden countries with large private health sectors. Both TB and the private health sector faced challenges in these countries because of COVID-19.

Hydrogen inhalation exerts anti-seizure effects by preventing oxidative stress and inflammation in the hippocampus in a rat model of kainic acid-induced seizures.

Hydrogen gas (H) is an antioxidant with demonstrated neuroprotective efficacy. In this study, we administered H via inhalation to rats to evaluate its effects on seizures induced by kainic acid (KA) injection and the underlying mechanism. The animals were intraperitoneally injected with KA (15 mg/kg) to induce seizures.

Association between Cardiovascular Disease and Handgrip Strength Risk among Community-Dwelling Older Adults in India.

The literature does not adequately examine the relationship between cardiovascular disease (CVD) and risk in handgrip strength (HGS) among community-dwelling older adults in India. The study aimed to investigate this relationship, considering sociodemographic, lifestyle, and clinical variables. A cross-sectional study involving 31,001 individuals aged ≥60 assessed HGS in kilograms using a handheld Smedley Hand Dynamometer and self-reported CVD status.

The Association Between Pain and Physical Frailty Among Older Adults in India: Depression and Insomnia as Mediators.

Objectives: To investigate the association between body pain and physical frailty among older adults in India and to examine whether this association is mediated by symptoms of depression and insomnia.

Methods: Data were obtained from the Longitudinal Aging Study in India, comprising 31,464 adults aged 60 and older. Physical frailty was assessed using a modified version of the frailty phenotype developed by Fried and colleagues.

Chronological age has been the standard for quantifying the aging process. While it is simple to quantify it cannot fully discern the biological variability of aging between individuals. The growing body of interest in this variability of human aging has led to the introduction of new biomarkers to operationalize biological age.
