This study aimed to determine the number of recipients with active transplants under the care of transplant centers in 2022 and the current volume and needs for continuous and long-term care in this group of transplant recipients. Data came from the organ transplant registry, one of the registries maintained by the Polish Transplant Coordinating Center Poltransplant. We included recipients of individual organs who, on January 1, 2022, were living with an active transplant performed in previous years and recipients who received a transplant in 2022.

A quality system of hospital procedures (in accordance with the ISO system 9001:2008) regarding the donation process, from the identification of a possible donor to the retrieval of organs, was applied there in 2014. Seven independent documents about hospital procedures, were designed to cover the entire process of donation.

Methods: This study evaluated whether the system (nationwide, maintained and funded by national organization) is sufficient, improved donation after brain death rates, and hospital activities.
Results: Donation indicators over a 21-month period of coordinators' work were compared with the 21-month period before their employment.
