Multidrug resistant Gram-negative infections in neonatology.

Introduction: Multidrug resistant Gramnegative (MDRGN) infections are an increasing problem in neonatal intensive care units. The objective of this study was to establish the epidemiological, clinical, microbiological, and evolutionary characteristics of carbapenem-resistant MDRGN infections and the risk factors for them at the Division of Neonatology of a tertiary care hospital.

Population And Method: A retrospective cohort study was done in this Division in patients with a documented MDRGN infection between 4/24/2013 and 4/29/2015.

[Hydrocortisone for the treatment of refractory hypotension: a randomized controlled trial].

Introduction: Systemic hypotension is a common sign in critically sick infants. Several studies have suggested that the use of short series of corticosteroids increases arterial blood pressure and reduces the inotropic support needs in preterm neonates with hypotension. There are a small number of reports on the use of hydrocortisone (HC) for the treatment of refractory hypotension in infants.

[Linezolid for the treatment of newborns infected with vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium].

Five patients hospitalized in the neonatal unit between 2002 and 2007, infected with vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium treated with linezolid are presented in this study. This antibiotic showed good clinical efficacy and safety, since no adverse events occured in this group of patients.

[Therapeutic monitoring of vancomycin in critical care pediatric patients].

Introduction: Vancomycin is used in pediatric patients usually at 40 mg/kg/day four times daily. Recent data demonstrated the need of large doses to reach therapeutic concentrations in critical patients.

Objective: Describe dosage regime of vancomycin in patients from a pediatric intensive care unit, register values of plasmatic concentrations and determine the regimes necessary to reach therapeutic troughs.

[Treatment of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus with linezolid in paediatric hospitals].

Objective: To describe the use of linezolid in vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus infections in a paediatric hospital.

Method: Retrospective, observational study of hospitalised patients at the "Juan P. Garrahan" paediatric hospital receiving linezolid for the treatment of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus, during the period between January 2002 and July 2004.
