Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a well-established and serious complication associated with cardiovascular revascularization procedures, regardless of its severity. According to the 2023 annual report of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases - United States Renal Data System, the incidence of cardiovascular disease-related AKI hospitalizations has been steadily increasing over the past decade. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), on the other hand, remains one of the most frequently performed major surgical procedures in the United States, with an estimated 400,000 surgeries conducted annually.

Digital solutions for migrant and refugee health: a framework for analysis and action.

Digital technologies can help support the health of migrants and refugees and facilitate research on their health issues. However, ethical concerns include security and confidentiality of information; informed consent; how to engage migrants in designing, implementing and researching digital tools; inequitable access to mobile devices and the internet; and access to health services for early intervention and follow-up. Digital technical solutions do not necessarily overcome problems that are political, social, or economic.

A nationwide provider survey of neuro-oncology tumor boards in a lower-middle-income country: Comparing centers with and without tumor boards.

Objectives: To provide information about implementation, resources, practice patterns and prevalent perceptions regarding neuro-oncology tumor boards (NOTBs) in a lower middle income country.

Methods: A nationwide survey was designed to include licensed neurosurgeons involving data on practice, structure, and perceptions of NOTBs with non-probability sampling, a pre-validated proforma, data analysis using SPSS v27, and geospatial mapping using Quantum GIS.

Results: 139 neurosurgeons were surveyed from 63 neurosurgical centers of a lower middle income country.

Diagnosis and molecular characterization of three allexiviruses infecting garlic crop in Saudi Arabia.

Forty-four samples of garlic plants showing virus-like symptoms were collected, during the growing season (2021-2022) from different locations in Qassim province, Saudi Arabia. These samples were analyzed by ELISA against the important Allium allexiviruses including garlic virus A (GarV-A), garlic virus B (GarV-B), garlic virus C (GarV-C), and Shallot virus X (ShVX). The obtained results showed that 22/44 (50%) samples were found to be infected with one of the tested viruses.

Effects of Zinc-Biofortified Wheat Intake on Plasma Markers of Fatty Acid Metabolism and Oxidative Stress Among Adolescents.

Background/objective: Zinc deficiency is common worldwide and has been linked to reduced growth and immune function, increased risk of and slower recovery from infections, and increased risk of non-communicable diseases. To address the issue, zinc biofortification of wheat has been proposed as a sustainable approach to increase dietary zinc intake in countries like Pakistan, where zinc deficiency rates are high and wheat is the primary staple crop. Since plasma zinc concentration (PZC) does not reliably respond to small changes in zinc intake, biomarkers sensitive to small changes in zinc intake achievable though biofortification are needed.
