The rising prevalence of obesity has led to an increase in bariatric procedures, with laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) being one of the most commonly performed surgeries due to its efficacy and safety. However, internal hernia (IH) remains a significant complication post-LRYGB. The debate over preventive closure of mesenteric defects (MD) during LRYGB continues, with no consensus on the optimal technique.

The Capivari-Monos Environmental Protection Area (EPA) is located in the southern part of the São Paulo city Green Belt. Since the 1950s, this region has been affected by uncontrolled urban sprawl, resulting in a change in the ecological habits of some vector mosquitoes. Over the last two decades, cases of autochthonous bromeliad malaria associated with the presence of anopheline mosquitoes in the EPA have been recorded.

However, recent findings of Culex (Microculex) species in bromeliads in urban areas and in artificial breeding sites close to human habitations suggest that they are becoming more tolerant of urbanization. Whilst dispersion studies of this subgenus have shown the ecological valency of some species in relation to human-impacted areas, there is a scarcity of studies on the blood-feeding habits, vector capacity and taxonomy of Microculex.
