Aim(s): To adapt and validate the HSOPS 2 instrument for the Italian context and to describe the current patient safety culture amongst healthcare personnel working in Italian hospitals.

Design: Cross-sectional study.

Methods: We adapted and validated the HSOPS 2 instrument following the COSMIN guidelines: we performed a forward-backward translation, calculated the content validity index, evaluated face validity, acceptability (percentage of participants responding to all items on the questionnaire and to every specific item), construct validity (confirmatory factor analysis), and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha for each dimension).

Background: In 2018, a nationwide survey carried out in 387 acute care hospitals from 16 out of 21 Italian regions, allowed defining an extended checklist for the participatory evaluation of person-centredness in hospital care. We aimed to validate a reduced set of core items for continuous use across the country.

Methods: Factor analysis was used to validate the construct of the checklist.

Introduction: In 2005, the Italian Ministry of Health entrusted the National Agency for Regional Healthcare Services (Agenzia Nazionale per i Servizi Sanitari Regionali, AGENAS) with the task of monitoring the implementation of recommendations to prevent sentinel events, which are serious adverse events that can compromise patient safety. The aim is to provide Regions and healthcare facilities with a standardised method for managing these events. Currently, there are nineteen recommendations developed with the support of regional experts and other stakeholders.
