A buffet-type meal was presented to 28 young men after participation in various athletic activities and to 30 subjects kept inactive. At 30 min after 2h of exercise, total energy intake was about 25% greater than after the rest situation. The food choices after exercise yielded an energy intake from proteins that was significantly larger than after rest, but not of carbohydrate or fat.

Thirteen college-age men and women were submitted weekly to submaximal exercise for 2 h. After each exercise session, they were presented with the same meal composed of two high-protein, one high-lipid and two high-carbohydrate foods. The meal was offered at random 0, 30, 60, or 120 min after the 2-h exercise or 60 min after a session without exercise.

The work reported below was conducted for the purpose of evaluating the toxicity of two levels of potassium metabisulfite on various aspects of metabolism in adult rats. It appears that the two doses do not disturb the activity of acid plasmatic phosphatase. The increase of the pyruvic acid o blood caused for the higher level of sulfite (50 mg/kg/day) is considerably increased for absorption of a diet containing 67% of sugar, and considerably decreased by injection the day before the dosage of 200 microgram thiamine.
