Laparoscopic vertical clip gastroplasty (LVCG) with BariClip is a recent procedure that appears to be safe Gentileschi et al. (Obes Surg 33(1):303-12, 2023). The initial complications reported include erosion, slippage, and gastroesophageal reflux.

Comparing Medical Record Abstraction (MRA) error rates in an observational study to pooled rates identified in the data quality literature.

Background: Medical record abstraction (MRA) is a commonly used method for data collection in clinical research, but is prone to error, and the influence of quality control (QC) measures is seldom and inconsistently assessed during the course of a study. We employed a novel, standardized MRA-QC framework as part of an ongoing observational study in an effort to control MRA error rates. In order to assess the effectiveness of our framework, we compared our error rates against traditional MRA studies that had not reported using formalized MRA-QC methods.

Source Data Verification (SDV) quality in clinical research: A scoping review.

Introduction: The value of Source Data Verification (SDV) has been a common theme in the applied Clinical Translational Science literature. Yet, few published assessments of SDV quality exist even though they are needed to design risk-based and reduced monitoring schemes. This review was conducted to identify reports of SDV quality, with a specific focus on accuracy.

Error rates of data processing methods in clinical research: A systematic review and meta-analysis of manuscripts identified through PubMed.

Background: In clinical research, prevention of data errors is paramount to ensuring reproducibility of trial results and the safety and efficacy of the resulting interventions. Over the last 40 years, empirical assessments of data accuracy in clinical research have been reported, however, there has been little systematic synthesis of these results. Although notable exceptions exist, little evidence exists regarding the relative accuracy of different data processing methods.

Interaction between type 2 diabetes and past COVID-19 on active tuberculosis.

Background: The global setback in tuberculosis (TB) prevalence and mortality in the post-COVID-19 era has been partially attributed to pandemic-related disruptions in healthcare systems. The additional biological contribution of COVID-19 to TB is less clear. The goal of this study was to determine if there is an association between COVID-19 in the past 18 months and a new TB episode, and the role played by type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) comorbidity in this relationship.
