Background: Altered biosynthesis of eicosanoids is linked to type 2 inflammation in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), but their role in recalcitrant NPs is unclear.

Objectives: We sought to identify endotypes that are linked to recalcitrant CRSwNP, based on eicosanoids, their biosynthetic enzymes, and receptors as well as cytokines and the presence of eosinophils and mast cells in recurrent NPs.

Methods: Mucosal tissue collected at the time of sinus surgery from 54 patients with CRSwNP and 12 non-CRS controls were analysed for leukotriene (LT) E4, prostaglandin (PG) D2, 15(S)-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (15(S)-HETE) and 17 cytokines with ELISAs and Bio-Plex immunoassays.

Objectives: Telehealth and home spirometry feasibility for children has been established, but their impact on cystic fibrosis (CF) disease progression remains unassessed. We aimed to evaluate the effects of telehealth and home spirometry on CF disease progression and care.

Methods: Children with CF aged 5-17 years from all Swedish CF centers were provided with home spirometers.

Insulin degrading enzyme (IDE) plays a critical role in degrading insulin and beta-forming proteins, implicating its significance as a biomarker in metabolic dysfunction and neurocognitive disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). Understanding the impact of pre-analytic conditions of in vitro IDE levels is imperative for reliable biomarker assessment. This study explored the influence of freeze-thaw cycles, storage temperature, and storage time on IDE levels in human serum.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the effects of lumacaftor/ivacaftor on lung function and microbial presence in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients homozygous for F508del over one year.
  • - Results showed significant improvements in lung function (ppFEV1) and body mass index (BMI) among both adults and children and a reduction in the prevalence of certain CF-related respiratory microorganisms.
  • - However, key pathogens did not show significant changes, indicating that while some improvements were seen, the overall microbiological burden may not have diminished as expected.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore correlations between insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE) and markers of metabolic function in a group of patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) or Alzheimer's disease (AD) and metabolically healthy volunteers.

Method: We included 120 individuals (47 with T2DM, 9 with AD, and 64 healthy controls). Serum levels of IDE were measured with commercial kits for ELISA.
