Purpose: Mechanical stress on the ocular surface, such as from eye-rubbing, has been reported to lead to inflammation and various ocular conditions. We hypothesized that the mechanosensitive Piezo1 channel in the conjunctival epithelium contributes to the inflammatory response at the ocular surface after receiving mechanical stimuli.
Methods: Human conjunctival epithelial cells (HConjECs) were treated with Yoda1, a Piezo1-specific agonist, and various allergens to measure cytokine expression levels using qRT-PCR.
Background: A histologically involved surgical margin (R1) is often observed after resection for cholangiocarcinoma. Compared with a negative margin (R0), R1 with invasive carcinoma (R1inv) markedly worsens survival, whereas the prognostic effect of R1 with carcinoma in situ (R1cis) remains controversial.
Methods: Patients who underwent resection for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma between 2002 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed.
Background Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is characterized by cartilage degradation, osteophyte formation, and synovitis. Cartilage degradation in KOA begins with the loss of aggrecan, primarily due to A Disintegrin and Metalloproteinase with Thrombospondin Motif 5 (ADAMTS5), which is produced by chondrocytes and synovial cells and a key target for therapeutic intervention. Current treatments for KOA primarily focus on pain relief, as disease-modifying osteoarthritis drugs (DMOADs) remain unavailable.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 21-year-old man was diagnosed with segmental adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder based on ultrasonography and computed tomography images. Computed tomography with drip infusion cholangiography revealed that the cystic duct joined the infraportal type of the left lateral bile duct (IPLLBD), which runs caudal to the umbilical portion, and that the left medial bile duct joined the right hepatic duct without forming the left hepatic duct. We planned a single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy with fluorescent cholangiography.
