Relationship between incident types and impact on patients in drug name errors: a correlational study.

Background: There are many reports regarding various medical institutions' attempts at incident prevention, but the relationship between incident types and impact on patients in drug name errors has not been studied. Therefore, we analyzed the relationship between them, while also assessing the relationship between preparation and inspection errors. Furthermore, the present study aimed to clarify the incident types that lead to severe patient damage.

Risk factors for predicting severe neutropenia induced by amrubicin in patients with advanced lung cancer.

Background: Neutropenia is one of the most frequent and dose-limiting toxicities in amrubicin (AMR) therapy. However, the predictive factors for the development of severe neutropenia in AMR therapy remain unknown.

Methods: The subjects were 61 advanced lung cancer patients treated with AMR monotherapy.

Involvement of de novo ceramide synthesis in radiocontrast-induced renal tubular cell injury.

We reported previously that various radiocontrast media cause apoptosis in porcine proximal tubular (LLC-PK(1)) cells, in which reduction in B-cell lymphoma (Bcl)-2 expression and caspase-3 activation are implicated. In the present study, we investigated a role for ceramide in radiocontrast media-induced apoptosis in renal tubular cells. LLC-PK(1) cells were exposed to radiocontrast media for 30 min, followed by incubation for 24 h in normal medium.

Endogenous glucocorticoids inhibit scratching behavior induced by the administration of compound 48/80 in mice.

In this study, we investigated the effects of endogenous glucocorticoids on the compound 48/80 (a condensation product of N-methyl-p-methoxyphenethylamine with formaldehyde)-induced mouse scratching behavior using either RU-486 (mifepristone), a glucocorticoid receptor antagonist, or a surgical resection of the adrenal glands. Subcutaneous injection of compound 48/80 induced not only a corticosterone elevation in the plasma but also an enhanced expression of corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) mRNA in the paraventricular nucleus, which thus suggests that hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is activated by the compound 48/80-induced cutaneous reaction. Inhibition of such an endogenous glucocorticoid activity by RU-486 significantly increased the degree of scratching behavior at not only the early-phase (<60 min) but also the late-phase (>60 min) time course after the injection of compound 48/80.

[Clinical trial of bradykinin-enhancing chemotherapy for a recurrent malignant glioma: a case report].

Patients with malignant glioma undergo a combined treatment with surgical resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Although those treatments usually show some restraining effects on the tumor, a relapse occurs in most of the patients within a few years. We have investigated the feasibility and safety of intra-arterial chemotherapy for malignant brain tumors by enhancing vascular permeability using intra-arterial bradykinin infusion.
