Article Synopsis
  • Acute heart failure (AHF) patients exhibit a wide range of symptoms and risks, making them a complex group to manage, with increased chances of dangerous ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) during episodes.
  • New VAs during AHF correlate with higher morbidity and mortality in hospitals, but there is ongoing debate about when to perform coronary interventions or implant defibrillators.
  • Different European countries have varying emergency medical capabilities for treating AHF and VAs, and while guidelines exist for chronic heart failure, less is known about arrhythmias in AHF, prompting this consensus paper to propose better ways to identify and treat these complications.

Article Synopsis
  • There is limited understanding of how idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF) starts, but previous research suggests that it usually doesn't depend on pauses in heart rhythm.
  • The study aimed to investigate the initiation patterns of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (PVT) in IVF patients, analyzing a total of 410 arrhythmia episodes among 180 patients.
  • Results showed that about 27.2% of PVT episodes were pause-dependent, with the majority occurring during normal heart rhythms and initiating PVCs mostly having short coupling intervals (under 350 ms).

Purpose: Patients at risk for sudden cardiac death may temporarily need a wearable cardioverter-defibrillator (WCD). Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has a class I recommendation in patients with cardiac disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and feasibility of undergoing CR with a WCD.

Introduction: Pulmonary vein (PV) isolation is the mainstay of catheter treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). The CoolLoop® cryoablation catheter (AFreeze® GmbH; Innsbruck, Austria) was developed to create wide and complete circular lesions around the PVs. In this study we evaluated feasibility and safety of this novel ablation system in humans.
