Absence of a home-field advantage within a short-rotation arable cropping system.

Aims: The home-field advantage (HFA) hypothesis predicts faster decomposition of plant residues in soil compared to soils with different plants (), and has been demonstrated in forest and grassland ecosystems. It remains unclear if this legacy effect applies to crop residue decomposition in arable crop rotations. Such knowledge could improve our understanding of decomposition dynamics in arable soils and may allow optimisation of crop residue amendments in arable systems by cleverly combining crop-residue rotations with crop rotations to increase the amount of residue-derived C persisting in soil.

Background: Two overweight prevention interventions were developed to be offered by preventive Youth Health Care (YHC) in addition to the currently applied overweight prevention protocol to parents of 0-3 year old children. The two interventions aim to support parents of preschool children to realize healthy child nutrition and activity behaviors of their young child. The aim of this study is to assess the effects of the two overweight prevention interventions with regard to child health behaviors and child Body Mass Index.

Optimal drug therapy after aspirin-induced upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is a common adverse effect of chronic aspirin treatment. Traditionally, most physicians might tend to discontinue aspirin therapy after related gastrointestinal bleeding. However, recent studies have shown that continuation of aspirin is beneficial because of a decrease of cardiovascular complications and only a relatively small increase of recurrent peptic ulcer bleeding when combined with a proton pump inhibitor.

'BeSAFE', effect-evaluation of internet-based, tailored safety information combined with personal counselling on parents' child safety behaviours: study design of a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Injuries in or around the home are the most important cause of death among children aged 0-4 years old. It is also a major source of morbidity and loss of quality of life. In order to reduce the number of injuries, the Consumer Safety Institute introduced the use of Safety Information Leaflets in the Netherlands to provide safety education to parents of children aged 0-4 years.
