Activated Factor VII-Antithrombin Complex, a Biomarker of Tissue Factor-Related Pathways in Different Clinical Settings: A Narrative Review from Cardiovascular Diseases to Cancer.

Tissue factor (TF) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that represents the fundamental physiological initiator of the coagulation cascade through its interaction with factor VII. TF belongs to the cytokine receptor protein superfamily and contributes to the transduction of cellular signaling. Therefore, TF-related pathways are involved in multiple pathophysiological processes, not only in coagulation/thrombosis but in a wider mechanisms' panorama, ranging from infective to neoplastic diseases.

"There's nothing I can't do--I just put my mind to anything and I can do it": a qualitative analysis of how children with chronic disease and their parents account for and manage physical activity.

Background: This paper reports the findings of a South Australian qualitative, exploratory study of children and young people living with a chronic disease, and their perceptions and experiences of physical activity. The perceptions and experiences of their parents were also explored. The chronic diseases were type 1 diabetes, asthma and cystic fibrosis.

Pallister-Killian syndrome: difficulties of prenatal diagnosis.

The first prenatal diagnosis of Pallister-Killian syndrome (PKS) was reported by Gilgenkrantz et al. in1985. Since this report, about 60 prenatal cases have been reported but both sonographic and cytogenetic diagnoses remain difficult.

[Diagnosis and treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome].

Obesity, ultrasonic ovarian morphology, serum LH levels and LH/FSH ratio are inconstant symptoms of the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and are thus no longer essential for diagnosis. PCOS is diagnosed today by the finding of chronic anovulation and hyperandrogenism characterized by a high serum level of "free" testoterone. The other causes of hyperandrogenism, as well as anovulations due to hyperprolactinemia, high levels of FSH and abnormal thyroid function have to be ruled out.
