Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common malignant tumor of the skin. This case report aims to report a case of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in an elderly male presenting with a non-healing ulceroproliferative growth on the shin of the right lower limb and a hypopigmented patch on the shin of the left lower limb. The significant feature of this case is that in the shin of the left lower limb, SCC appears in the background of chronic hypertrophic lichen planus (HLP) but in the right lower limb, there is no evidence of a background hypertrophic lichen planus.

Graphene has been studied intensively in opto-electronics, and its transport properties are well established. However, efforts to induce intrinsic optical properties are still in progress. Herein, we report the production of micron-sized sheets by interconnecting graphene quantum dots (GQDs), which are termed 'GQD solid sheets', with intrinsic absorption and emission properties.

Background & Objectives: There are only a few reports available on characterization of Propionibacterium acnes isolated from various ocular clinical specimens. We undertook this study to evaluate the role of P. acnes in ocular infections and biofilm production, and also do the phylogenetic analysis of the bacilli.

Purpose: New Delhi metallobetalactamase-1 (NDM-1) production is a major mechanism of resistance to carbapenems among the Enterobacteriaceae and is a cause for concern in the field of microbial drug resistance. This study was performed to detect NDM-1 in Enterobacteriaceae and to determine the clonal relatedness of NDM-1 producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from patients admitted in a tertiary care centre.

Materials And Methods: A total of 111 clinically significant Enterobacteriaceae isolates, resistant to cephalosporin subclass III were screened for carbapenemase production by the modified Hodge test.

Purpose: Since, to our knowledge, there are no reports on the prevalence of the blaNDM-1 gene among ocular isolates of Enterobacteriaceae, and only limited information on the prevalence of extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) among ocular bacterial isolates are available, our study was undertaken.

Methods: A prospective study was done on 74 Enterobacteriaceae isolates from patients presenting with clinical suspicion of bacterial ocular infections during a period from January 2010-December 2011. All isolates were subjected to detection of ESBLs by double disc synergy and screened for the presence of CTX-M -I, II, III, and IV groups, and OXA, TEM, SHV, blaNDM-1 genes by PCR.
