Licuri () is an oilseed fruit common in the Brazilian caatinga and cerrado biomes. This fruit has high socioeconomic importance in the regions where it grows, being incorporated into exported animal feed and also into gastronomic preparations. We report the case of a young patient with typhoid fever who complained of pain in his left hypochondrium and shoulder and recrudescence of fever after 21 days of treatment with tiamphenicol and ampicilline. Ultrasonography lead to the diagnosis of splenic abscess; the patient was splenectomized and S. typhi was cultured from the pus.
