The reliability of analysis is becoming increasingly important as point-of-care diagnostics are transitioning from single-analyte detection toward multiplexed multianalyte detection. Multianalyte detection benefits greatly from complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) integrated sensing solutions, offering miniaturized multiplexed sensing arrays with integrated readout electronics and extremely large sensor counts. The development of CMOS back end of line integration compatible graphene field-effect transistor (GFET)-based biosensing has been rapid during the past few years, in terms of both the fabrication scale-up and functionalization toward biorecognition from real sample matrices.

Magnetic resonance imaging examinations are frequently carried out using contrast agents to improve the image quality. Practically all clinically used contrast agents are based on paramagnetic metals and lack in selectivity and specificity. A group of stable organic radicals, nitroxides, has raised interest as new metal-free contrast agents for MRI.

Plasmonic biosensing has emerged as the most sensitive label-free technique to detect various molecular species in solutions and has already proved crucial in drug discovery, food safety and studies of bio-reactions. This technique relies on surface plasmon resonances in ~50 nm metallic films and the possibility to functionalize the surface of the metal in order to achieve selectivity. At the same time, most metals corrode in bio-solutions, which reduces the quality factor and darkness of plasmonic resonances and thus the sensitivity.

Background: Subforms of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) have been a subject of intensive research, and use of multikallikrein immunoassays can add clinical value to the early detection of prostate cancer, overcoming known limitations of PSA. In this study, we evaluated mutant 4D4 (L3-2) antibody-assisted assay constructs against reference wild-type (wt)-4D4-based assays for determination of intact PSA (iPSA) and nicked PSA (nPSA) in plasma samples.

Methods: Perioperative plasma samples obtained from 105 men who underwent biopsy (73 cancer, 32 noncancer) were analyzed with sandwich immunoassays for total PSA (tPSA), free PSA (fPSA), iPSA (3 constructs), and measured nPSA (2 constructs).

Because of their extraordinary physical properties, low-dimensional materials including graphene and gallium selenide (GaSe) are promising for future electronic and optoelectronic applications, particularly in transparent-flexible photodetectors. Currently, the photodetectors working at the near-infrared spectral range are highly indispensable in optical communications. However, the current photodetector architectures are typically complex, and it is normally difficult to control the architecture parameters.
