Evaluation of preoperative visceral fat area / psoas muscle area ratio and prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer.

Background: Recent research has focused on the prognostic relevance of preoperative sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity in various cancers. In this study we investigated the relationship between visceral fat area (VFA), psoas muscle area (PMA), and the prognosis of patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery.

Methods: Patients with stage III colorectal cancer who underwent surgery between July 2013 and April 2020 were included.

Torsion of the wandering spleen with intestinal obstruction.

Wandering spleen is a relatively rare condition and may be complicated by intestinal obstruction or abnormal intestinal rotation. Herein, we report a case where these three conditions appeared concomitantly. An 18-year-old woman with an intellectual disability was admitted to the hospital because of vomiting and fever.

C-reactive Protein/Albumin Ratio Predicts Short-term Postoperative Outcomes and Intraabdominal Abscess Formation in Colorectal Perforation.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate preoperative factors, including the C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin ratio (CAR), associated with postoperative outcomes in patients with colorectal perforation who underwent emergency surgery to improve postoperative prognosis.

Methods: Twenty-eight consecutive patients who underwent emergency surgery for colorectal perforations were included. We retrospectively investigated the clinical factors associated with their postoperative outcomes.

A case of completely resected cecum cancer with synchronous metastases to the small intestine found in acute appendicitis.

Purpose: Risk of malignant tumors increase with age;hence, careful examination of older patients should be consdiered when identifying the causes of acute appendicitis. Here, we report a case of a patient with cecum cancer with synchronous metastases to the small intestine that was found during acute appendicitis.
