Long-term outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischaemic stroke patients with concomitant malignancy.

Introduction: Patients with cancer (CP) need a different approach to acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) treatment as intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) may be contraindicated. Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is a treatment of choice for otherwise eligible patients, although the literature on its long-term outcomes in CP is limited.

Aim: Assessing outcomes of MT-treated AIS patients with concomitant malignancy in a year-long follow-up.

Acute Ischaemic Stroke in Patients Treated with Direct Oral Anticoagulants: Potential Causes, Clinical Characteristics, and Short-Term Outcomes.

Introduction: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) are the first-line treatment for primary and secondary acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) prevention in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), but a significant percentage of patients develop AIS despite being treated with DOAC. As the number of DOAC-treated patients is growing, so is the number of patients with AIS on DOAC. The aim of the study was to assess the incidence of AIS with prestroke DOAC treatment among patients hospitalised in the University Hospital in Kraków, to analyse the clinical characteristics of AIS occurring in patients on DOAC, and to identify potential causes of treatment ineffectiveness in this group.

Soft rot pathogen 3937 produces tailocins resembling the tails of P2.

Tailocins are nanomolecular machines with bactericidal activity. They are produced by bacteria to contribute to fitness in mixed communities, and hence, they play a critical role in their ecology in a variety of habitats. Here, we characterized the new tailocin produced by strain 3937, a well-characterized member of plant pathogenic Soft Rot (SRP).

Mineral, Nutritional, and Phytochemical Composition and Baking Properties of Teff and Watermelon Seed Flours.

Demonstrated limitations in the mineral and nutritional composition of refined flours have led to calls for the possibility of enriching them with health-promoting supplements, such as high-value non-cereal seeds. Teff and watermelon seeds have been found suitable for the production of gluten-free flour, but so far, their potential to enrich conventional baking flours has not been comprehensively studied. Hence, the present study aimed at farinographic evaluation of dough based on refined wheat flour with additions of whole white teff (TF) and watermelon seed (WSF) and pomace (DWSF) flours (tested levels 10%, 20%, and 30%), as well as possibly extensive chemical characterization of the plant material tested, including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, total phenolics, flavonoids, melatonin, and antioxidant potential.

A 49-year-old man complaining of diminution of vision in both eyes (OU) was referred to our outpatient clinic. He reported visual loss for 5 years, but it was most progressive during the last few months.
