Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and most aggressive primary malignant brain tumour. The standard of care is surgical resection, followed by radiotherapy with concurrent and adjuvant temozolomide. View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: During the last few years it has been shown in several laboratories that Celecoxib (Cx), a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAID) normally used for pain and arthritis, mediates antitumor and antiangiogenic effects. However, the effects of this drug on a tumor cell line resistant to chemotherapeutical drugs used in cancer have not been described.
Results: Cx reduces angiogenesis in the chick embryonic chorioallantoic membrane assay (CAM), inhibits the growth and microvascular density of the murine TA3-MTXR tumor, reduces microvascular density of tumor metastases, promotes apoptosis and reduces vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production and cell proliferation in the tumor.
A Nurse Practitioner-led quality improvement project was implemented in a vascular surgical care clinic to facilitate home-based exercise for patients diagnosed with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and intermittent claudication (IC). The primary goal of the project was to develop an information brochure about PAD and the benefits of exercise, as well as, a written prescription for home-based exercise program. These materials are used in the care of patients with PAD and IC to augment verbal recommendations normally provided by the healthcare provider.
